Friends Street cars
Todd Mitten's '67 GTO sedan
Todd purchased this GTO in October 1992 in Colorado Springs, CO (the 3rd '67 he has ever owned).  It served as a daily driver thru the early/mid 90's, with a variety of mild, streetable 400's, Muncie's, an ST-10 (currently in the car), and 3.55's.

Today it runs a narrower '65 10 bolt housing a 2.93 Posi.  Also running a rebuilt ST-10 with a Centerforce 'dual friction' clutch, and of course the "birthday motor" 455 (cast on my exact birthday... Aug 28, 1970).  It's 0.030" over (462), 2-bolt main, with 1971 #96 heads, Comp Cams XE 274-H cam (similar but stronger specs as factory RAIV), Cloyes true roller t-chain, and an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold w/Q-jet.  Also installed is a new Aluminum radiator (shorter 'non-A/C' unit) with dual row, 1 and 1/4" tubes, and A/C baffles to aid with cooling.

Mechanically, the suspension is upgraded with new Urethane bushings, springs (the front ones purchased from HO racing in the 90's and about 1" shorter than factory), rear Edelbrock 'no-hop' bars, front disc brakes, line loc, and trunk mount battery.  I've also rewired the car, firewall forward, including a remote mount starter solenoid, powdercoated many parts (including inner fenders, core support, control arms, etc.), and rebuilt the instrument cluster.

The radio/stereo is a factory '67 pushbutton unit AM unit, with all new internals.  It's now an AM/FM stereo with a hidden MP3 jack, remotely mounted inside the console, for use with an iPod or MP3 player.  (Nice upgrade!)

Thus far, no cosmetic upgrades.  It had one repaint prior to my ownership, and still retains this paint, along with the original Turquoise interior.  Someday I will repaint the car, but it will always remain Cameo Ivory with Dark Turquoise interior.

As time goes on, Todd plans some changes/additions including-  Window tinting, a new set of BFG Radial T/A's (235 60R14 front and 255 60R15 rear) on newly powdercoated Rally II's (14x7 front, 15x8 rear).  Also plan to recover the seats in the original pattern, but with 'cloth' inserts in the centers like his '67 Tempest wagon.  New carpet as well at that time.

It's simply a fun 'hot rod' driver car, as I envisioned for this build.  The car is being used simply for pleasure driving now (over 700 miles on it as of mid July 2012), with an occasional drag strip foray.  My 'gut' tells me it's a 13 second car.  No plans to make it much stronger than that...  Just loving the 'thump' at idle, and the strong street performance!

This car will never leave my garage.  After 20 years together, it's kinda like my left arm.  I wouldn't know what to do without it!  I will own it till the day I die...

I purchased this '64 Catalina from its second owner while I was in college. The car came with all of the registration cards, back to the original purchase date. The gentleman I purchased it from loved the car, but was not very mechanically inclined. He realized he was in over his head as the car aged. I had very little money at the time, and he sold it to me for a very low price because he felt I would take good care of the car. I have had the car for nearly 10 years now.

This particular '64 Catalina is nicely optioned, in a fairly rare body style - the 4-door hardtop. It has a power bench seat, air conditioning, power windows, remote mirrors, the Ventura interior package, a remote trunk lamp, and the 4-bbl engine option. With all these luxury options, it is a bit surprising that it did not come with 8-lugs or an FM radio. Until the original 389 V8 died, this car was my daily driver.

Since I bought the car, I have added disk brakes, a dual master cylinder, an Aluminum radiator, an electric fan, 100-Amp internally regulated alternator, a 455 V8, and for now it has a four-speed Muncie. Ultimately, I plan to install a TH400 automatic, as the car was originally equipped with an automatic, and the roto-hydramatic I originally rebuilt for the car did not survive the 455.

Future plans include new paint and a refresh of the interior, as the vinyl is starting to crack and split.
